Reopening plans

We have re-opened!

Our opening hours will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays 10 ‘til 3.

A number of safety measures will be in place.

  • If required, a queue can form outside the shop. There will be signs reminding of the requested 2m social distancing gap.
  • we would appreciate you wearing a face covering.
  • Entry will be limited to only 4 customers in the shop at any one time who must be responsible for their own social distancing. No unaccompanied children please.
  • Hand sanitiser will be provided inside the door and must be applied.
  • There will be a one way system which must be followed. We ask you to select your purchases swiftly – don’t rush, you can go round the shop more than once! Please be patient with other customers and respect the 2m social distancing gap. No overtaking!
  • whilst at the counter please remain behind the screens
  • We will prefer card payment and if your purchase is under £45 it will preferably be contactless. If paying cash we would prefer the exact amount to minimise change.

We will continue to offer our local delivery service with purchases being made through our website. Delivery within the M2 – Western Link – Love Lane area will be made for free. Orders placed outside this area but within 10 miles will be posted for free when you spend over £50. You can also arrange to pick up online purchases from the shop within our opening hours. Please consider these purchasing methods before visiting.

This is a new situation for us all so please bear with us. We will constantly review how this is working and if necessary change hours and structure to meet demand.

Peco OO Bullhead track update

Received today from Peco…

STREAMLINE OO SCALE CODE 75
“BULLHEAD” FLEXIBLE TRACK

We are delighted to announce the release of the latest addition to the famous Streamline brand of flexible track!
Much requested by modellers, the new OO scale bullhead track from PECO represents the common style of track once seen all over the UK (and in some parts of France too!). Even today, bullhead track can still be found on secondary routes and in sidings, so the time frame for this track is very wide. With sleeper dimensions and spacing closer to 4mm/OO scale (despite the track gauge still being 16.5mm), visually this track does look impressive once ballasted and weathered. It was always going to be a compromise, but we think that the result is pleasing to the eye. Certainly, the attention to detail of the rail chair fixings should be noted, a visual necessity for replicating true bullhead track.
Here are the key points to note about our new track:
  • Correct track gauge for most commercially available rolling stock – no risk of derailment on curves.
  • Sleeper depth matches existing PECO track, so fully compatible with other 16.5mm gauge (OO/HO) track in the PECO range.
  • Rail chairs feature realistic detail, with superb wood grain effect on sleepers.
  • Accurate bullhead rail profile.
  • Nickel silver rail – the best material for electrical conductivity.
  • Made in Britain to the robust high standards expected and set by PECO.
The track has been produced in one yard (3 feet) lengths, and is supplied to the trade in cartons of 25. Specific joiners, featuring rail bolt detail, are in development for the early part of the new year, but in the meantime you can use the SL-110 Rail Joiner for Code 75, which can be used to connect lengths of the bullhead track very well.
Above: coming soon in early 2017  – the SL-114 bullhead rail joiner
We are building up stocks of this new track, but manufacturing this product does take longer than our standard flexible track, and we will do our best to keep this line in stock during the early days of its release. If it should go out of stock this should only be for short periods as we keep up with the anticipated demand.
MATCHING TURNOUT TO FOLLOW IN 2017
A new turnout is also under development for 2017, based on the large radius design currently used in the Streamline range. News on this will follow in the new year.

EFE – Bachmann take over

From Bachmann:

Bachmann Europe Plc is delighted to announce their acquisition of the Exclusive First Editions range of 1/76th scale die-cast vehicles including buses, coaches, lorries and London Underground tube trains.

The company began trading as part of the ERA Group in 1989 and was originally located in Great Yarmouth before moving to Milton Keynes. In 1996 the company moved to Hemel Hempstead and in 2001, Frank Joyce, the only remaining founder member of the EFE team bought the company with his wife Brenda, relocating to Enfield the following year.

Bachmann Europe Plc began distributing EFE products to the model trade in July 2013.

David Haarhaus, Managing Director of Bachmann Europe Plc said today “We are delighted to incorporate another high quality addition to our existing model and hobby portfolio. The Exclusive First Editions range of collectable vehicles has enjoyed a good reputation for developing highly detailed and well researched models. EFE has been a corner stone of Die-Cast Model collecting for many years, while other ranges may have come and gone with varying interpretations of the original vehicles.

We are looking forward to further developing the existing items, and delivering new models to the many EFE collectors and discerning enthusiasts around the world.

Frank Joyce’s ethos was always to set out to produce the most accurate model possible. This matches the Bachmann ideals entirely, never trying to be the cheapest, but working hard to try and be the best”.

Thanks to JC for the “heads up”
