On Wednesday 18th August we took a trip on The Cathedral’s Express from London Victoria to Weymouth Carnival.

Leaving Victoria at 8.45 we were headed by a Cl.67 as far as Eastleigh due to “Tornado”‘s fireman calling in sick. The train picked up a replacement fireman at Basingstoke…
Our outward route took us from Victoria, through Hounslow and Staines before joining the mainline before Woking and continuing on the mainline through Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole to Weymouth

At Weymouth, it was carnival week and at 4 o’clock we watched the Breitling Wingwalkers

Then we were treated to a display by The Red Arrows.

On boarding the train at Weymouth we walked through the dining sections of the train to see what we’d missed out on going 2nd class.
Leaving Weymouth our train was hauled to Yeovil by a Cl.66

At Yeovil Pen Mill we reversed to Yeovil Junction where “Tornado” was waiting to take over.

We left Yeovil around 10 minutes late, had a clear run to Basingstoke where we arrived 8 minutes early.

The next stop was Woking where we left the train to make our own way home.

All in all, a very good (albeit very long) day out.
