A day in the life…

I am often asked, by friends and customers alike, what I do all day. So I thought I’d pick a random day and “chronicle” what I do, and at what time.

So, today is the 15th February 2011 and this is a day in the life of The Hobby Shop…

8.50 – start the day by switching on the computer and beginning to sort out and package the orders received on the website over the weekend

9.30 – 1st customer through the door

9.31 – 1st phone call of the day

11.00 – 1st delivery of the day arrives

13.00 – start repricing this week’s reductions – this includes changing the prices on the website and on all the items in stock

16.25 – finish doing up the 15th and last mail order of the day

16.35 – 30th and last customer of the day leaves the shop (30 includes the 15 mail orders)

16.50 – the last (of countless) phone call of the day

17.00 – close the doors, read the till and credit card machine – an average day all round, which is good!

17.05 – go to the Post Office

17.35 – get back from the Post Office

18.00 – finish repricing the last (and 52nd) of this week’s reductions

18.00 – and begin unpacking the 1st of 5 deliveries – Bachmann, Fleischmann, Herpa, Lifecolor and some magazines today – this means checking off, pricing and sorting out which items are for specific customers

19.20 – finish unpacking the last delivery

After a quick tidy up including taking any excess stock up to the stock room, it’s 19.25 and time to go home

1st thing tomorrow will be taking the photos of any new items to be added to the website tomorrow, probably meaning starting at 8.30…

So that is an average day in the life of The Hobby Shop. Now you know…
